⚠️ This is a 4-Year Agniveer Engagement — Not a Permanent Commission! Agniveervayu (Musician) are enrolled for a fixed engagement period of 4 years only under the Agnipath Scheme. There is no pension, no gratuity, and NO Ex-Serviceman (ESM) status after discharge. Up to 25% of each batch may be offered regular cadre Airman service after 4 years — at IAF’s discretion. Candidates who are not retained will receive the ₹10.04 Lakh Seva Nidhi Package (tax-free) on discharge. Additionally, no resignation is permitted before the 4-year engagement ends except in exceptional cases.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) — Ministry of Defence, Government of India — has released the recruitment notification for Agniveervayu (Musician) INTAKE 01/2027 on 20 July 2026. Online registration is open from 20 July 2026 (11:00 AM) to 02 August 2026 (11:00 PM) at iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in. The Pre-registered Recruitment Rally will be held from 31 August 2026 to 09 September 2026 at two venues — Air Force Station New Delhi and Bengaluru — open to candidates from all districts, all states and all Union Territories of India.
As an Agniveervayu (Musician), you will become a part of the Air Force Band, trained to play various musical instruments. Apart from musical training, you will also undergo military training and may be assigned other duties in organisational interest at the discretion of the IAF. This is a highly specialised entry that demands both musical proficiency and physical fitness — making it suitable for candidates who are trained musicians aspiring for a defence career.

Candidates must indicate two choices of venue in order of preference during online registration. CASB reserves the right to allot a venue that may not match the candidate’s preference. No request for change of centre or date will be entertained. Candidates must cater for travel contingencies (train delays etc.) and plan accordingly.

- Indian citizens (male and female) only
- Must be UNMARRIED at time of application and must remain unmarried throughout the 4-year engagement. Agniveervayu found married or who marries during engagement will be dismissed from service.
- Female candidates additionally must not get pregnant during the 4-year engagement. Pregnancy results in Low Medical Category (LMC) and liability for dismissal, and bars selection into regular cadre.
- Candidates discharged from Indian Army / Indian Navy / other Govt. organisations are eligible only if discharged with NO adverse entries (original Discharge Certificate required at rally).
- Candidates discharged from Indian Air Force are NOT eligible.

Educational Qualification
Matriculation / 10th pass (or equivalent) with minimum pass marks from any Central, State, or UT Government-recognised School / Board as on the date of registration.
Musical Proficiency
- Must have proficiency in music with accuracy in tempo, pitch, and singing one complete song
- Must be able to perform one preparatory tune and any notation — Staff notation / Tablature / Tonic Solfa / Hindustani / Carnatic etc.
- Must be able to tune individual instruments (where applicable) and match unknown notes on vocal or instrument
- Must have proficiency in playing at least ONE instrument from List A OR List B
- Proficiency in TWO instruments (one from each list) is desirable

Musical Experience Certificate (ONE Required)
Candidates must have at least ONE of the following:
- Grade 5th or equivalent or above in one instrument from a recognised music institute — such as TCL, RSM, KM Music Conservatory, Bangalore School of Music, TSM, GMI, Berklee School of Music, etc.
- Diploma or equivalent in the field of music for candidates performing Hindustani or Carnatic Classical Music from any recognised university
- Certificate of participation / awards at various events — such candidates must be able to perform/play blowing instruments with staff notation as mentioned in education qualifications

Tattoo Policy: Permanent tattoos not permitted except on inner face of forearm (elbow to wrist), back/dorsal part of hand, and tribal custom tattoos. 📌 Regular Cadre After 4 Years — Important Clarification: Up to 25% of each batch of Agniveervayu may be offered the opportunity to apply for regular cadre enrolment as Airman in IAF after 4 years. This selection is based on performance during the engagement period and is entirely at the discretion of the Government of India. Agniveervayu have NO right to selection for regular cadre. The 75% who are not selected for regular cadre will be discharged with the Seva Nidhi Package. Pregnancy during engagement bars female Agniveervayu from regular cadre selection.

Q1. Is Agniveervayu Musician a permanent job?
No — it is a 4-year engagement only. There is no pension, no gratuity, and no ESM status after 4 years. Up to 25% of each batch may be offered regular cadre (Airman) after 4 years at IAF’s discretion. Candidates not selected for regular cadre are discharged with the ₹10.04 Lakh Seva Nidhi Package (tax-free).
Q2. Which instrument do I need to play?
Proficiency in at least one instrument from either List A (Concert Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Bass/Tuba) or List B (Keyboard, Guitar, Violin/Viola/String Bass, Percussion/Drums, All Indian Classical Instruments) is mandatory. Proficiency in one instrument from each list is desirable. Bring your instrument to the rally.
Q3. What is the PFT for female candidates?
PFT-I: 1.6 km run in 8 minutes. PFT-II: 10 Sit-ups in 1 min 30 sec, then 15 Squats in 1 min. No push-ups for female candidates (unlike male candidates who do 10 push-ups). Height minimum is 152 cm (147 cm for NE/hilly Uttarakhand; 150 cm for Lakshadweep).
Q4. Is there negative marking in the written test?
No — the English Written Test (30 questions, 30 minutes) has no negative marking. 1 mark per correct answer | 0 for wrong or unattempted answers. However, you must qualify the English paper to proceed to the Music Proficiency Test.
Q5. When is the Provisional Select List (PSL) published?
PSL will be displayed at both rally venues (Air Force Station New Delhi and 7 ASC Bengaluru) and on iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in on 14 November 2026. PSL validity is 6 months. Enrolment List (final) published after 01 December 2026 via email.
Q6. Can a candidate with LASIK surgery apply?
No. The IAF notification explicitly states that candidates with a history of LASIK or PRK surgery will NOT be accepted. Candidates with uncorrected vision must meet the specified unaided/corrected standards. Carry your latest prescription (not older than 1 month) and spectacles to the medical examination.
